For the Non-Facebookers

For those in the family that aren't on facebook...

Here are some pictures from last week when Matt took Randal out on the water for some Daddy/daughter fishing and I took Tilley with me to location scout with my brother.

Pigtails!

So I've only been waiting for about a year to do this....but Randal Jean finally let me play with her hair enough to give her pigtails.  We call it "princess hair" as that seems to be the only way she will let me know do it :)

Morning at the Beach

I escaped to my parent's beach home over the weekend to spend time with my mom and get caught up on some work.  Luckily I was able to make a little time to spend one morning on the beach with the girls and my mom.  Here are a few pictures I was able to grab....seriously in need of 3 adults when trying to photograph 2 babies at the beach especially when one of those babies hasn't mastered sitting yet.

Enjoy!

True Story...

This afternoon I was talking to Tilley (yes, I have conversations with my 6m old who can not communicate back).  Anyways, Matt was listening in on our conversation and this is what happened...

Me (to Tilley):  I need to go start the towels in the washer so I can wash your jammers so you have something to sleep in tonight.
Matt (to me):  The towels in the washer?
Me:  Yes, I need to add the towels from our bathroom and start it
Matt: Oh, uh, I put those in the dryer
Me: You put dry towels in the dryer?
Matt: Yes....
Me: Did you not see the caked on baby food on Tilley's bibs?
Matt: Guess not...
Me: Unbelievable

When is it EVER okay to put dry laundry from the wash in the dryer?  Dry laundry in the wash means one of two things 1) the washer hasn't been run yet or 2) the washer was run a while ago and needs to be be re-run.

God Bless my husband...

Peaceful

I've been wanting to get a peaceful sleeping picture of Randal Jean FOR.EV.ER but the child is a hot mess when she sleeps....and by that I mean literally a hot mess.  She gets completely under the covers until she is a hot sticky sweaty mess and then throws just enough of the covers off of her so she can breathe.  Luckily pure exhaustion after a weekend in Calabash did the trick.  The child passed out cold within seconds of her nap time story and didn't even have time to pull the covers over her head.

Tilley Grey is 6m!!!

Tilley Grey is 6m old and I can't believe she is half way to her first birthday!!!

At 6m Tilley:

*Loves to laugh
*Likes to roll over...particularly from back to tummy which is odd since she hadn't been too fond of tummy time until recently
*Still refuses a bottle
*Eats her weight in food daily...or so it seems.  Seriously I am sometimes concerned about the child exploding with the amount of food she takes in
*Despite early training to be a competitive eater she is still a little peanut.  At her 5m appt (which was really at 5 1/2m) she was only 11.4 lbs.  The doctor was happy that she was gaining but still wanted to see more so I have added avocados (fatty food) to her diet and thin out her homemade baby food with formula instead of water (formula=calories water=no calories).
*Seems to rediscover her hands daily and looks at them as if to say "oh my goodness where did these come from...they are awesome!"
*Is attempting to sit while holding on to a toy but is very easy to topple over.
*Is getting better at riding in a car...Dear Lord, Thank you for answered prayers.  Amen.
*Loves to grap a hold of your hair and pull as hard as she can...she is surprisingly strong
*Wants to eat big people food.  If she is on your lap while you are eating you better guard your plate.
*Has a knack for peeing in the midst of a diaper change.  This is a daily occurrence...  It is absolutely uncanny how often she does this.  I even put a fresh diaper right underneath the old but by virtue of changing her diaper there is a split second where the new diaper is not fully attached and in the split second she pees.  This is particularly fun when she wakes up in the middle of the night to be fed and then ends up with a wardrobe change.
*Still not sleeping through the night...

I dare to say it but I think she is starting to get a bit easier or maybe I am just getting used to having a very high maintenance baby.  Either way I love her to absolute little itty bitty baby pieces and can't get enough of her.  Her smile and laugh are absolutely contagious making every single sleepless night worth it :)  Although if she would cut it out on the sleepless nights you would definitely not hear me complaining...

Happy Birthday America!!!

Just going to stop apologizing for not blogging....it keeps happening, I keep apologizing, vicious cycle of guilt....apologies done.

Any who...

I can't follow up Matt's previous post with anything insightful or meaningful at the moment but want to share some more recent pics with you all.  His post has made me want to finally post about my new role as a SAHM/WAHM (if you don't know what those are I'll explain when I post about it).

For now I will just share some pics of us from the 4th.  We spent the 4th at the lake home of some family friends and it was a glorious day to celebrate the red, white, and blue.  The girls were PHENOMENAL that day.  Tilley took an absolutely unheard of/never before seen 3+ hour nap on a bed (not being held/swaddled)....it was SHOCKING!!!  Randal Jean skipped her nap and hung in there until after fireworks with a good attitude.  I really enjoyed being at the lake.  Its been years since I've been to a lake...we live at the beach so there is really no reason to escape to some other body of water, but I'll tell you what something about a lake just calms me even on a holiday while juggling two kids!!!

On to pics.

God Bless America!!!
Pretty horrible family pic...not even an option available for me to head swap.  I said the girls were well behaved that day not super at picture taking :)
Good golly I love this girl's smile
The lake in front of the house we were at wasn't but 2ft deep (max) for about 50 yards in front of the house...heaven for Randal Jean
Tilley and I having a conversation...she is quite talkative

Guest Post by DADDY

I apologize in advance for the poor quality of this post compared to what you folks are used to.......

I have been getting a lot of hate mail recently about the lack of blog posts, so I just wanted to get something up before I start getting pipe bombs in the mail. Katie has been absolutely slammed with photography sessions and editing, so to be clear: I AM NOT COMPLAINING!!!!

Let's start with a few words about Katie. As most of you know, Katie never returned to her job in the corporate world after Tilley's birth. Being a finance/accounting/CPA/numbers/calculator/nerd, I pushed back on this for awhile, even though I knew my efforts were pointless against Katie's will. Ultimately I knew it was not a wise financial decision, but absolutely the best thing for our children. I weighed the pros and cons, and as much as I tried to quantify it, you just can't put a figure on children being raised by their parents. I know this is not possible for a lot of people, but if there was any glimmer of hope in us making this work I knew we had to try.

Two kids is not even close to double the amount of work that one is, it is some exponentially ridiculous amount of additional time, work, love, responsibility, etc. The times when I keep Tilley and Randal by myself are few and far between. As bad as it may sound, it is probably for the best. I don't trust myself and holy sh*t that is a lot of work! For starters, Tilley will not take a bottle (I don't have a boob to put in her face when she is ill), Randal is now opening doors (why yes neighbor, that is my daughter, thanks for returning her), Randal loves to play hide and seek without notifying the "seeker" of her intentions (Cobi and Tessa, have you seen Randal?), Randal told us recently that she needed a cold beer (and yes she can open the refrigerator), and many more reasons why it is risky business having me in charge of sole supervision of these two.

Katie's days typically start around 5 or 6 AM when Tilley wakes for a morning diaper changer and quick feed, if lucky she will go back down for a hour or two. Then Randal wakes around 730am full of energy and ready to go. After managing to get everyone breakfast, Randal goes to preschool 3 days a week from 9am to noon. If Tilley is in a good mood, Katie may be able to run a quick errand or even edit a few pictures while Randal is in school. When Randal gets home it's time for lunch, possibly some outside time, maybe a little arts and crafts, and then a nap around 2pm or so. Again, if Tilley is good Katie may be able to squeak out some house work or edit a few pictures, answer emails, etc. Randal then wakes around 530 or so and is ready to go. They will usually do some type of activity or just play in the playroom or outside if it is nice until dinner time. This is when I usually get home around  or 630 and am introduced to the madhouse. Katie has typically already started dinner somehow and I will watch one of the kids while she watches the other and cooks dinner. Then we do some playing, coloring, swimming, etc until Randal goes down around 9pm. Tilley usually goes down a little before Randal and may get up one or two more times before we go to sleep. I'm usually in bed by 1130pm or so and Katie usually stays up until at least midnight if not later editing, doing dishes, answering emails, etc. Whew, I'm freaking tired just typing that! I'm sure I left a lot out, but you get the point.

Anyways, my point is that Katie has one of the toughest jobs I can imagine (full time mom) before even considering her photography gig. I get exhausted just watching one of the little munchkins for an hour or two, much less both of them for 15+ hours a day!

Ok, you get the point, I love my wife and children and admire her for the awesome job she does every single day!

Now for the pictures.....I am at work so all I have are my phone pictures! I know you guys are used to these stunning pictures Katie posts, so prepared to be disappointed! Actually I may have some of her pictures on my phone, so I'll see what I can come up with. I just hope this will hold the hate mail for a few weeks until Katie can get back to posting some decent content for all of us!

Here is one Katie took, she may have already posted on here. This is Randal enjoying her favorite chocolate ice cream at the Lewis Strawberry patch.

Another Katie picture that you may have seen, some Tilley love....

Have a great rest of your summer!
